Ringling School of Art & Design
The Ringling School of Art & Design first opened its doors in 1931 to a class of 75 students. It is a renowned four-year art and design institution, privately run, located in Sarasota, Florida. The college sits on a 42-acre campus with over one hundred buildings in the city of Sarasota, home to 1,200 students and offering instruction to undergraduates at a low student to faculty ratio of just 13:1.
Two separate majors are provided to students at Ringling: a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of fine arts. Currently, eight different majors are offered between these degrees: computer animation, digital film, fine arts, game art & design, graphic & interactive communication, interior design, illustration and photography & digital imaging. However, in the 2008-2009 academic year, six additional courses will be added: advertising design, business of art & design, broadcast design/motion graphics, painting, printmaking and sculpture. Minors are also available in the areas of business art & design, digital film, fine arts, photography & digital imaging and visual development.
Ringling School of Art & Design is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
