St. Petersburg College
St. Petersburg College is a network of commuter colleges based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The institution began as a private community college in 1927 under the name of St. Petersburg Junior College. Its named was changed in 2001. Currently, there are eighteen SPC campuses in total, providing education to some 60,000 students. The student to faculty ratio stands at 25:1.
SPC provides students with associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees and various certifications. An Associate in Applied Science can be obtained in the areas of management, marketing and industrial management technology. Bachelor’s degrees are available in subjects such as education and educational studies, dental hygiene, orthotics & prosthetics, nursing, paralegal studies, public safety administration, banking, business administration, international business, technology management, veterinary technology and others. Advanced Technical Certificates and Applied Technology Diplomas are also available. There are many online courses at SPC. The college is purely for commuter and online students – there is no on-campus housing for students.
St. Petersburg College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
