University of South Florida: St. Petersburg
The University of South Florida of St. Petersburg, Florida, is a satellite campus of the main institution, which is located in Tampa. It was created in 1965, nine years after the original school was created to meet the demands of a growing urban population. It is a public institution that maintains a lower enrollment than the main campus at Tampa, with a student body of 3,700 undergraduates.
The St. Petersburg campus of the University of Florida is about-one tenth the size of the main campus, and so there are not quite as many academic programs available there. However, degrees are still provided by four different academic divisions: the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Business and the College of Education, plus graduate school. In total, there are just over twenty majors to choose from at the undergraduate level. For graduate students, there are twelve master’s degrees to obtained at USF St. Petersburg, the majority of them in education but also some in environmental science & policy, journalism, Florida studies and business administration. A United States Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program is available to students of USF St. Petersburg.
The University of South Florida St. Petersburg is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
