University of West Florida

The University of West Florida is a public institution that is part of the State University System of Florida. It was the sixth addition to it, first constructed in 1965 and then opened in 1967 in Pensacola, Florida. Over the years, the University has expanded to a 1,600-acre campus that is home to a total of 10,531 students, the majority of them undergraduates, and a student to faculty ratio of 23:1.

Academic programs at the University of West Florida provide a total of forty-nine different degree choices to students at both the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Associate’s degrees are available as associate of arts, pre-pharmacy and pre-engineering, as are eight different forms of bachelor’s degrees: bachelor of arts, fine arts, music, science, science in business administration, science in computer engineering, science in electrical engineering and science in nursing. All of these cumulatively offer many different majors and dozens of concentrations. Master’s degrees are provided in the areas of art, accountancy, arts in teaching, business administration, education, public health, science, science in administration, science in nursing, science in teaching and science in social work. A single specialist program in education is available, as is a single doctorate of education. Both United States Army and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs are available to students of UWF.

The University of West Florida is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
