Fort Valley State University
Fort Valley State University began as the Fort Valley High and Industrial School, chartered in 1895 in Fort Valley, Georgia. In 1939 it was combined with the Agricultural College of Forsyth and is now part of the University System of Georgia under its current name. It is located on a 1,365 acre campus where some 2,500 students are instructed at a student to faculty ratio of 18:1.
Academic programs at Fort Valley State University provide students with a selection of some fifty different majors at the undergraduate level, plus various graduate programs. Examples of available bachelor’s degrees would be business administration & economics, communications, military science, education, agriculture, animal science and plant science. Master’s degrees are provided in the following areas of study: animal science, biotechnology, mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling and case management, public health, school counselor education and middle grades education. A United States Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program is available to students of Fort Valley.
Fort Valley State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
