Gainesville State College
Gainesville State College is a four-year public institution that is located approximately forty-five miles northeast of Atlanta. It was originally founded in 1964 in Gainesville, Georgia, and is currently a part of the University System of Georgia. It is seated on a 150-acre campus where around 8,240 students are instructed at a student to faculty ratio of 28:1.
Academic programs at Gainesville State College are based at the undergraduate level, offering a very large selection of associate’s degrees and bachelor’s degrees to students. There are literally dozens of associate’s degrees available in addition to numerous bachelor’s degrees. There are eight academic divisions that offer courses at GSC. These are based in the areas of business, education/health & wellness, humanities & fine arts, environmental and spatial analysis, learning support & English as a second language, mathematics & computer science, natural science/engineering & technology and the social sciences. A United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) program is available to students of GSC.
Gainesville State College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
