Georgia College & State University
Georgia College & State University (abbreviated GCSU) began as the Georgia Normal and Industrial College when it was first chartered in 1889. Today, the institution is a part of the University System of Georgia, and is located on a 43-acre campus in Milledgeville, Georgia. It serves some 6,300 undergraduate and graduate students at a student to faculty ratio of 18:1.
Academic programs at GCSU provide a total of thirty-six undergraduate degrees and twenty-five graduate degrees from four different academic divisions (the liberal arts and sciences, business, education and health sciences). Pre-professional programs are also offered in the areas of dentistry, engineering, forestry & natural resources, law, medicine, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant and veterinary medicine. Graduate programs include nearly two dozen different master’s degrees, plus four different specialist degrees in separate areas of education.
Georgia College & State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
