Georgia Southern University
Georgia Southern University is a public four-year institution located in Statesboro, Georgia. It traces its origins back to the year 1906 when it was created as the First District A & M school. Today, it is a part of the University System of Georgia. Its campus is approximately 700 acres in size, and it enrolls a student body of around 17,764 students. The student to faculty ratio is 21:1.
There are well over one hundred degrees available to students of GSU from academic programs based at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. These programs provide bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, specialist degrees and doctorates. They are available from the following schools and colleges: the College of Graduate studies, as well as the colleges of public health, business administration, education, health and human sciences, information technology, liberal arts and the social sciences, science and technology and interdisciplinary studies. Available doctorates include biostatistics, clinical psychology, community health behavior and education, curriculum studies, nursing, educational administration and public health leadership. A United States Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program is available to students of Georgia Southern, and this program also serves other institutions in the region.
Georgia Southern University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accreditation agency recognized by the United States Department of Education. SACS provides accreditation to institutions within an eleven-state area, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
