Georgia Institute of Technology
The Georgia Institute of Technology, also known as “Georgia Tech,” is a public university located in Atlanta, GA. This well-respected research institution was established in 1885 and was originally known as the Georgia School of Technology.
Georgia Tech is made up of six colleges that offer programs in computing, engineering, and the sciences. The school is also well known for its degree programs in architecture, liberal arts, and management.
Approximately 13,000 undergraduates and 6,400 graduate students attend Georgia Tech. In addition, 900 faculty members are employed by the university. The student-to-faculty ratio is 14:1.
Degree Programs at Georgia Tech
The six colleges offering programs at Georgia Tech are as follows:
• College of Architecture

• College of Liberal Arts
• College of Science
All the colleges offer Bachelor of Science degrees, even the College of Liberal Arts. Students at Georgia Tech can also choose to enroll in preparatory programs for dental, law, medical, or veterinary schools. In all, 36 undergraduate degree programs, 47 Master’s Degree, and 30 doctoral programs are offered at the university.
Getting Admitted to Georgia Tech
The deadline for applying for Early Admission to Georgia Tech is October 1. If you know that Georgia Tech is your first choice, then send in your application and you will find out in early November whether you have been accepted.
If you would like to be considered for the President’s Scholarship, you need to apply by November 1; scholarship recipients are announced on February 13. The final deadline for applications is January 15 and decision letters are mailed out in the middle of March.
Tuition at Georgia Institute of Technology
Tuition, room and board and other costs at Georgia Tech will cost approximately $35,376. If you are registered for four semester hours or more, you will also need to pay the following fees: activity fee, athletic fee, health fee, recreation fee, and a technology fee. All students enrolled at Georgia Tech will also be required to pay a transportation and technology fee, no matter how many hours they spend in class.
Sports at Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech is not just well-respected for academics, but it is also well known for its students’ performance in athletics. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets teams compete in NCAA Division I at the intercollegiate level. Seventeen teams participate in such sports as basketball, football, softball, track, cross country, swimming, diving, and volleyball.
Intramural sports are also a part of life at Georgia Tech. Students can participate in bowling, soccer, billiards, dodgeball, badminton, inner tube water polo, beach volleyball, kickball, and three-on-three basketball.
Online Programs
Not all students at Georgia Tech study on the campus. The Distance Learning program includes Master’s level courses, as well as a number of non-credit courses for professional development.
