Interdenominational Theological Center
A graduate professional school of theology, the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) is the premier resource for black church scholarship as well solutions to the various challenges faced by the African American community requiring the foundations of faith. It was established in 1958 as an independent, nonprofit educational school primarily to help its constituent seminaries to fulfill their mission of developing public theologians. These theologians are men and women of faith who have undergone special training for leadership in Church and society. Present enrollment includes 450 degree-track students, 400 students enrolled in certificate courses and 1,750 students participating in courses offered through ITC’s Institute of Church Administration and Management.
The Interdenominational Theological Center is home to six seminaries including the Gammon Theological Seminary (United Methodist), Morehouse School of Religion (Baptist), Turner Theological Seminary (African Methodist Episcopal), Phillips School of Theology (Christian Methodist Episcopal), Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary (Presbyterian Church USA), and the Charles H. Mason Theological Seminary (Church of God in Christ). Students who are members of denominations other than the six constituent denominations are designated as “At-Large”. This particular constituency was named in 1998 as the Selma T. and Harry V. Richardson Fellowship. There are about fifteen denominations represented in its student body.
ITC offers programs leading to degrees in Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Christian Education, Master of Arts in Church Music, Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Theology. It is located at 700 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Atlanta, Georgia, adjacent to the other institutions comprising the Atlanta University Center. Their collective presence as historically black colleges and universities makes the location the largest center of African-American higher education.
Dormitory housing is typically provided by constituent seminaries. Online courses are offered to distance education students. Full-time tuition per year is $ 7,962.00 for constituents and $ 9,582.00 for non-constituents. Part-time tuition is $ 407.00 and $ 561.00 per credit for constituents and non-constituents, respectively.
