Morehouse College

From the Augusta Institute established in 1867 which prepared black men for the ministry and teaching profession, Morehouse College rose to occupy a 66-acre campus in Atlanta and produced leaders that shaped national and world history. Before assuming its present name, the college became the Atlanta Baptist Seminary and then the Atlanta Baptist College. Morehouse College was named in honor of Henry L. Morehouse in 1913, who was the corresponding secretary of the Northern Baptist Home Mission Society. It is located at 830 Westview Drive, SW Atlanta, Georgia.

The student body is comprised of 2,800 students representing more than 40 states and 27 foreign countries. The faculty is composed of 164 full-time and 53 part-time members. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Offering programs for 26 majors leading to degrees in Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, the college’s three academic divisions consisting of the Business Administration and Economics Division, Humanities and Social Science Division, and the Science and Mathematics Division present a wide array of academic choices to its students.

Tuition cost per semester for 12 to 18 semester hours is $ 9,712.00 while part-time tuition for less than 12 semester hours is $ 809.00 per credit. Overload rate or tuition in excess of 18 hours is $ 474.00 per credit. Traditional residence hall facilities cost $ 3,119.00 while an average meal plan costs $ 2,354.00. Limited parking facility is available at a cost of $ 230.00 per semester.

Housed in the Morehouse College campus are the Andrew Young Center for International Affairs, Bonner Office of Community Service, Brisbane Institute, Center for Teacher Preparation and Instructional Improvement, Monroe College Entrepreneurial Center, Leadership Center at Morehouse College, Morehouse Research Institute and the Public Health Science Institute.
