American College of Education

For more than 100 years, the American College of Education has been fulfilling its mission of enhancing the effectiveness of the American teacher in the classroom. It was founded in 1858 as Barat College, an educational institution for young women in Chicago. It was in 2004 that the college took on its present name.

The American College of Education prides itself in employing an open enrollment policy, with its doors wide open to any education professional who wants to enhance his or her skills. They offer four master’s degree programs:

• M.Ed. in Educational Leadership
• M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction
• M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with ESL Specialization
• M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with Bilingual Specialization

They also offer a dual degree program in Education Leadership.

The basic tuition rate is $4950 for one program. Starting November 2009, however, the tuition rate for new students is $6,950. Additional fees apply. One of the advantages of this college is that they offer various payment modes. One may opt to pay the whole amount personally or pay in 12 monthly installments. For the latter option, a $25 administrative fee is added onto each installment. Another option is payment through payroll deduction, if the school has an agreement with the college.

Degree programs are delivered online, making it even more possible for full time workers to obtain higher education. The college follows a personal coaching model to ensure that each student is guided all the way.
