Catholic Theological Union

Considered the biggest Roman Catholic graduate school of theology in the US, Catholic Theological Union (CTU) is focused on teaching the Catholic faith but with openness towards dialogue with the Protestant, Jewish and Muslim religions.

Catholic Theological Union’s main campus comprise its 10-story main building and 95,000-square foot five-story Academic Center located in S. Cornell Avenue in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, not far from Lake Michigan and only a few minutes bus ride to downtown Chicago itself.

Established by three religious orders after the close of the Second Vatican Council, it now educates both lay and religious from more than 60 countries. More than 30 religious orders send students to CTU with nearly twenty percent of priests in the United States graduating from CTU.

Accredited by the Illinois Department of Higher Education and recognized by the Association of Theological Schools and the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, Catholic Theological Union offers three undergraduate, four graduate and three doctorate degrees, namely: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Theology (in association with Monash University), Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies, Master of Arts in Theology, Master of Divinity, Master of Ministry, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Theology and Doctor of Ministry Studies. Graduate Certificate’s in Liturgy and Teaching Religious Education are also available.

CTU also offers distance education covering a wide range of subjects including Ecclesiology, Pentateuch, Introduction to the New Testament, Guadalupe and Marian Spirituality, Portraits of Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels and The Christian Spiritual Life: A Latino Perspective.

Full-time tuition for 2009-2010 costs $610.00 per credit hour ($1,830.00 per course). Audit fee of $325.00 per credit hour ($975 per course) is not included. Rooms cost an average of $2,520.00 per semester.
