DePaul University

DePaul University is a private institution founded in 1898 by the Vicentian religious community in Chicago, Illinois. Named after 17th century philanthropic priest, Saint Vincent de Paul, the university is ranked as the largest Catholic institution of higher education in the United States.

Although, like any other university, DePaul is committed to providing instruction, conducting research, and doing public service, what differentiates it from the rest is its emphasis on programs that promote instruction and learning. Students come to DePaul to learn and acquire skills and attitudes that hone them into becoming independent learners. They leave without being disappointed.

Using the quarter system of class scheduling, DePaul offers its students over 260 undergraduate and graduate programs with most undergraduate students taking up accounting, finance, business, psychology or communications as their major. Those pursuing graduate degrees favor finance, computer science, information systems, early childhood education and public service as their chosen field of study.

There are 25,072 enrollees for the Fall 2009 term including 16,199 undergraduate students, 7,795 graduate students and 1,078 law students. Faculty members total 1,842 full-time and part-time professors. Around 88% of these faculty members hold a doctorate in their chosen fields. All of them are recognized as authorities in various disciplines. DePaul University’s student to faculty ratio is 17 to 1.

Undergraduate tuition for academic year 2009-2010 is US$25,765 for full-time students and US$475 per credit hour for part-time students. Tuition for graduate studies varies depending on the chosen field of concentration. As a form of assistance to students who may find the cost of education too steep, financial aid is extended by way of grants, scholarships, loans, and campus jobs.

On-campus housing is available for students who want to avail themselves of it.
