Illinois State University

Recognized nationally as the second-largest producer of teachers among member institutions of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, Illinois State University is also Illinois’ first public institution of learning. It was founded in 1857 as a normal university that focused on state teacher preparation but has since expanded its academic offerings. It is located at 100 North University Street, Normal, Illinois. A university community is growing in the Town of Normal which Illinois State University is very much a part of. Normal’s twin city is Bloomington and together they form one of the most productive areas in the heart of Central Illinois.

Academic programs are offered through the university’s six colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Applied Science and Technology, College of Business, College of Education, College of Fine Arts and the Mennonite College of Nursing. Illinois State University is accredited to grant baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees offering various major and minor courses of study.

There are about 5,500 students presently enrolled in the university’s educational programs. Total student population is over 20,000 with an additional 55,000 students served each year through the university’s credit and non-credit courses. In-state tuition and general fees amount to $ 340.30 per credit hour.

Student housing is mainly provided by the campus residence halls. Majority of the rooms are double-occupancy although limited slots are likewise available for single-occupancy, quad-occupancy and super-single rooms. The last option is a room reserved for one person but has the same size as a double room. Room and board rates vary specifically in residence halls having academic and special interest floors. The university also operates two apartment complexes which are suitable for married students, graduate students, students with dependents and qualifying upper class students. It should be noted however that admission does not guarantee a slot in the on-campus housing facilities.
