Illinois Wesleyan University

Illinois Wesleyan University is a liberal arts university located at 1312 Park Street, Bloomington, Illinois. Founded in 1850, the university presently maintains a highly selective admission policy to ensure that students get the personal attention that would help them achieve their educational goals. It has an average class size of 17 students with a student/faculty ratio of 11:1.

Degrees offered include the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science through the College of Liberal Arts, the Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education through the College of Fine Arts and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing through the School of Nursing. More than 50 majors are offered through Illinois Wesleyan University’s curriculum. Always seeking to be ahead of its time in terms of academic offerings, the university is credited to have initiated the first distance learning program in the US from 1873 to 1910.

Total present enrollment is about 2,066, 80.3% of which is enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts. The College of Fine Arts has 13.4% while the School of Nursing has 6.3% of the total enrollment. There are about 184 full-time faculty members. Illinois Wesleyan University follows the 4-4-1 academic calendar.

Annual tuition and fees amount to $ 34,012.00 while the approximate yearly cost for room and board is $ 7,776.00. Student support services and special programs are made available to enable students to fully utilize their university experience to their benefit. These would include academic advising and study abroad programs, among others.

Originally intended to be simply an institution of learning of collegiate grade, the university founders consisting of 30 civic and Methodist church leaders have made it possible to have one such institution and more in the Bloomington-Normal area.
