Knowledge Systems Institute
Knowledge Systems Institute or KSI is a private, non-profit graduate school of computer and information sciences located in Skokie, Illinois. It was originally established in 1978 by Dr. Shi-Kuo Chang as a research and professional education institute but its scope steadily widened and, in response to a growing demand, was developed into a graduate school. As the latter, KSI devoted its efforts to the honing of individuals and professionals in complex problem solving and in applying computer and information science methodologies to these problems.
As an institute for higher education, KSI offers a Master’s program in Computer and Information Systems and grants certificate programs in specific specialties. It also offers online courses for working professionals who are not able to attend the regular onsite classes.
Cost of tuition at KSI for domestic students or students residing in the United States is US$420 per credit hour; for international students or students from countries other than the U.S. US$504 per credit hour; and for those enrolled in ESL courses, US$1,512 per course. These costs are only for tuition and do not include the mandatory fees normally charged by KSI depending on the course taken and on whether the student is a domestic or an international student.
KSI students are mentored by professional fulltime faculty members who all hold a doctorate or the highest degree possible in their chosen fields. The small university atmosphere is effective in insuring that students are given the focused attention they need to quickly advance in their studies. Although there is no housing on campus, there are suitable residences around the area that students can move in to for the duration of their courses.
