Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago
Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago is a seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Founded in 1962, it is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood, a short distance from the University of Chicago. The mission of the seminary is to “prepare pastors, theological educators, lay professional leaders, diaconal ministers and other church leaders committed to the Christian faith to carry out their mission.”
The seminary offers degree programs geared towards training students for eventual entry into a life of ministry and for a role of leadership in the religious orders and organizations of which they are members. These degree programs include Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theological Studies, Master of Arts in Ministry, Master of Theology, Doctor of Ministry, and Doctor of Philosophy. The seminary also makes available non-degree courses in subjects like urban ministry, the Bible, the environment, ethics, and more.
Cost of attendance at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago is US$1,333 per semester for students working towards a degree in Master of Divinity and Master of Arts and US$2,770 per semester for those enrolled in a Master of Theology or Doctor of Philosophy degree. Extra courses charge an additional fee of US$1,333 for master’s level classes. Students who want to avail of on-campus housing pay an additional room charge ranging from US$707 to US$834 for family or private apartments or US220 to US$364 for shared occupancy apartments.
Financial aid is extended in the form of loans, grants and scholarships to help students pay for their cost of attendance at the seminary.
