Millikin University
Millikin University in an independent, four-year university founded in 1901 by James Millikin. It is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church but welcomes students from various faiths and cultural backgrounds. It is located at 1184 West Main Street, Decatur, Illinois.
Being the result of combined efforts of private philanthropists and the community, Millikin University is comprised of the Lincoln College and the Decatur College and Industrial College which amended the charter of the then already existing Lincoln University. Each campus had an established Board of Trustees and Board of Managers. The Decatur College and Industrial School eventually had nine schools under it including Engineering, Commerce and Finance, Fine Arts, Domestic Sciences and Arts, Horticulture and Landscaping, Economics and Sociology, Pedagogy, Library Training and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
There are about 2,300 undergraduate and 40 graduate students enrolled in the various programs of the university. Average class size is 23 while student/faculty ratio is 11:1. Education is provided through traditional classroom training and hands-on experience through internships and projects. The university’s special academic programs consisting of Study Abroad Programs, Edge Program and various scholars programs present other educational opportunities for the students.
Traditional undergraduate programs have a total estimated cost of $ 34,541.00 including full-time tuition for 12 to 18 credit hours, average room rate, full meal plan, technology fee and health service fee. Tuition for Adult Undergraduate Degree Completion Program cost $ 4,620.00 for 12 credit hours or $ 385.00 per credit hour. The MBA and MSN Programs charge an annual tuition rate of $ 23,940.22 or $ 630.00 per credit hour. Millikin University is comparatively small in size occupying a 75-acre campus but offers a comprehensive educational program which it believes is comparable to larger-sized colleges and universities.
