Butler University
Butler University is an institution of higher learning that emphasizes liberal arts-based education in an environment that seeks to remove barriers in ethnicity, economic disparity, race, gender and ideology. It was founded in 1855 by Ovid Butler, an attorney and abolitionist. It is located in a residential neighborhood in Indianapolis’ north side, about five miles from downtown. Its 290-acre campus is widely known for its park-like setting.
Butler University’s five academic colleges offer 55 undergraduate, 17 master’s and 1 professional degree. The College of Business, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Science, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences as well as the College of Fine Arts provide a wide range of academic tracks to enable students achieve their educational goals. The university’s comprehensive curriculum blends liberal arts with pre-professional programs.
Total present enrollment is 4.512 with students coming from 43 states and 52 countries. The average class size is 20 while the student/faculty ratio is 11:1. Total full-time faculty is 328.
In and out-of-state freshmen are charged $ 28,460.00 for tuition and $ 800.00 for fees. Room and board rate is approximately $ 9,500.00. Freshmen have two residence halls to choose from – the Ross Hall and the Schwitzer Hall. Upperclassmen on the other hand, have the Residential College, the University Terrace Apartments and the Apartment Village to choose from.
Daily visits to the Butler University campus are scheduled all year long. These visits are small group information sessions with student-led tours lasting for about 2 hours. Transfer student visits are highly encouraged to enable students to meet one-on-one with an admission counselor.
