Martin University

Martin University was founded by Rev. Fr. Boniface Hardin in 1977 for the purpose of serving low income, minority and adult learners. It has maintained this mission from its original campus in 35th Street and College Avenue to its present location in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood which it has occupied since 1987. The university is located at 2171 Avondale Place, Indianapolis, on the southwest corner of 22nd Street and Sherman Drive.

The university’s academic offerings are provided by its schools including the School of Liberal Arts which has 3 departments – Department of English, Department of Fine Arts and Foreign Language and Department of History and Sociology; the School of Social Science having four departments – Department of Criminal Justice, Department of Early Childhood Development, Department of Psychology and Department of Urban Ministry; the School of Business; and the School of Mathematics and Science having two departments – the Department of Mathematics and Department of Science.

At least 1,100 students are presently enrolled with Martin University including undergraduate and graduate students. Student/faculty ratio is 9:1. Students are categorized as full-time if they are registered for 12 credits or more for each semester. Registration in 6 to 8 credit hours constitute half-time enrollment.

Total cost of attendance is established by computing actual tuition and fees, allowance for housing, allowance for transportation and allowance for miscellaneous expenses. Full-time undergraduate tuition is about $ 13,200.00 while part-time undergraduate tuition costs $ 440.00 per credit hour. Full-time graduate tuition is $ 9,360.00 while part-time graduate course per credit hour costs $ 520.00. Books and supplies cost about $ 800.00. The university’s top three fields of study include Community and Psychology, Business Administration and Management, and General Psychology, in that order.
