Des Moines University
Located in Des Moines, Iowa, the Des Moines University is a pioneer osteopathic medical school and the second oldest osteopathic school in the United States.
Founded in 1898 as the Dr. S.S. Still College of Osteopathy, the school has been renamed several times to reflect the expanding fields of study it offers and the ever-increasing population of students. In no time, the college hospital and first clinic building were acquired for the two-pronged purpose of enhancing the clinical training of its students and to provide an additional health care facility through which to serve the community.
In 1980, in recognition of the need for additional health personnel to insure the smooth delivery of health care, the university’s board of trustees approved the establishment of the School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and the College of Health Sciences.
Today, there are over 1,700 students enrolled in the medical university which occupies a 22-acre campus in Grand Avenue. There are nine graduate degrees offered and these include:
• Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)
• Master of Science in Anatomy (M.S.)
• Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (M.S.)

• Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.)
