Divine Word College
Divine Word College is the only Roman Catholic college out of over a hundred in the United States whose main mission is to prepare young men for missionary work. Located in Epworth, Iowa, in a peaceful, tree-lined campus under the Archdiocese of Dubuque, Divine Word is an undergraduate Roman Catholic seminary primarily dedicated to the formation and religious education of young men wanting to join the Society of the Divine Word, a religious society founded by Saint Arnold Janssen.
Divine Word College offers a curriculum that combines liberal arts courses with a comprehensive program of spiritual formation set against a millieu that honors the cultural diversity, not just of its students, but of the world. As young seminaries, the students go through a curriculum of courses that combine traditional classroom study with real-life experiences gained through activities that promote apostolic ministry. Being of diverse cultural backgrounds, students need an intensive ESL Program to successfully complete their degrees.
Cost of tuition for academic year 2009-2010 for Divine Word College is US$10,800 for full-time attendance and US$360 per credit hour for part-time attendance and audited courses. Room and board costs US$2,850. To help defray cost of admission, the college extends financial aid to its students in the form of loans, a flexible payment option, or on-campus employment.
Apart from classrooms, the college has dormitories for students, a gym, a weight room, library, dining areas, living quarters and an indoor swimming pool. The central building within the campus is the chapel which is located at the north-end part of the property.
