Drake University

Drake University located in Des Moines, Iowa, is a private university committed to providing its students with a learning environment that will prepare them for a meaningful professional career, a full personal life and a desire to serve as a global citizen of the world.

Founded in 1881 by Francis Marion Drake, a civil war general, and George T. Carpenter, a maverick preacher of the Disciples of Christ Church, whose vision it was to create a well-rounded school that would integrate law and sciences with traditional courses in faith and literature, Drake University is now known, not just for its quality graduates but for being one of the 25 oldest and most respected law schools in the United States.

Drake University is credited for its comprehensive liberal arts and science courses. It offers a number of graduate programs and over 75 undergraduate majors through its six distinguished colleges: College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, College of Business and Public Administration, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, School of Law, and College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

There are currently over 5,221 students enrolled in the university, 3,164 taking up undergraduate studies and 2,057 pursuing graduate degrees. The student to faculty ratio is 14 to 1 which allows students to have a more focused interaction with their professors.

Cost of admission for full-time undergraduate students for academic year 2009-2010 is US$33,422 and US$520 per credit hour for part-time students. Full-time Law School tuition is US$30,750 per year and US$1,070 per credit hour for part-time Law students. Financial assistance by way of scholarships and loans are extended to deserving students. Additional fees are charged for students who want to avail of on-campus housing.
