Baker University
Baker University holds the distinction of being the very first university to be established in Kansas on February 12, 1858. It was named after a distinguished scholar and bishop of the United Methodist Church, Osmon Cleander Baker. The university was primarily established in the pursuit of academic excellence while instilling devotion to the Christian faith. Its rich history is very much evident in the inclusion of the university’s three buildings in Baldwin City on the National Register of Historic Places.
Seven campuses across Kansas and Missouri form the core of Baker University’s learning venues. Each campus has integrated itself to the respective communities in which they are found. Four schools shape the minds and future of students. The College of Arts and Sciences with more than 40 areas of study leading to a bachelor’s degree is offered in the Baldwin City campus. The School of Professional and Graduate Studies offer associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the Overland Park, Lee’s Summit, Kansas City Northland, Wichita and Topeka campuses. Night, weekend, online courses as well as non-degree courses for business professionals are likewise offered. The School of Education has undergraduate degrees in the Baldwin City campus while the master’s and doctoral degrees are offered in the campuses located at Kansas City, Wichita and Topeka. The School of Nursing is a partnership with Starmont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka.
The estimated cost of studying in the College of Arts and Sciences is placed at $ 28,000.00 inclusive of tuition, matriculation fee plus room and board. Baker University offers a financial aid package consisting of scholarships, state and federal grants, student loans and campus work, with only the loans requiring repayment after graduation. Both full-time students and working adult students will find the appropriate courses to fit their needs.
