Benedictine College
On the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, Benedictine College occupies an exceptional 110-acre campus to continue the more than 1,500 years of Benedictine dedication to learning. It is the product of the joint efforts of two existing academic institutions – St. Benedict’s Abbey and Mount St. Scholastica Monastery. The monks of the former and the sisters of the latter chose to form an academic community that is to function as a liberal arts and residential college guided by the values held dear by Catholic Benedictines.
Benedictine College can be found in the small but historic city of Atchison in Kansas located at the West Bank of the Missouri River. College facilities include eight residence halls, three educational building, a library, gymnasium, cafeteria, athletic and fitness facility plus outdoor recreational facilities. Several buildings of particular historical importance to Benedictine College can also be found at the area such as the St. Benedict’s Abbey, the Abbey Church and the Guest House.
Degrees granted by Benedictine College include Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music Education and Associate Arts in Business Administration. Numerous majors and minors are offered as well as pre-profession programs for dentistry, engineering, law, medical technology, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy and physical therapy. Certifications for athletic training and teaching provide additional learning options to Benedictine College students.
Tuition cost is $ 18,050.00 per year. Overload fee for each credit hour over 18 is $ 540.00 per semester. Housing facilities cost about $ 3,480.00 per year for double occupancy. The student body consists of about 1,500 students. Student to faculty ratio is 19:1. Benedictine College certainly has come a long way from its beginnings in 1858 when the monks and sisters of the Benedictine order responded to the call of Christ and established a school in the wilds of the Kansas frontier.
