Brescia University
Founded by the Ursuline sisters of Mount Saint Joseph in 1950, Brescia University performs the task of personal and social transformation by means of education. It traces its origin to Mount Saint Joseph Junior College for Women located at Maple Mount, Kentucky and its coeducational campus in Owensboro. These two campuses consolidated in 1950 and produced the Brescia College which started offering four year courses in 1951. It became an independently supported, Catholic, coeducational institution offering undergraduate and graduate course work rooted in the liberal arts and gained university status in 1998.
Brescia University is located at 717 Frederico Street, Owensboro, Kentucky. Its campus consists of twenty-two buildings and has been in constant renovation for the past few years to enable the facilities to better respond to students’ needs and requirements. It is the only Catholic university in Western Kentucky and adheres up to this day to the mission and vision set by its founder, St. Angela Merici. She believes that a strong and just society is only possible when families are strong which is in turn made possible by education.
Present total enrollment is 635 with a student/faculty ratio of 14:1. Brescia offers degrees in the Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Science. Other educational programs include the English as a Second Language course, the STARS Program and various Pre-Professional Programs. The university’s location in Owensboro is near the Ohio River and within walking distance of the revitalized downtown area. Full-time undergraduate tuition is $ 14,000.00 and required fee is $ 220.00 annually. Part-time undergraduate per credit hour costs $ 445.00. Full-time graduate tuition is $ 7,800.00 with a required fee of $ 120.00. Every graduate credit hour costs $ 325.00. Room and board rates are within the range of $ 5,480.00 to $ 6,100.00.
