Kentucky State University
Kentucky State University or KSU is a four-year, learning institution of higher education located in Frankfort, Kentucky. A historically Black university, it was founded in 1886 as the State Normal School. It was in 1938 that the school changed its name to Kentucky State College although it was only in 1973 that the school became a full-fledged university offering its first graduate programs.
Kentucky State University offers a comprehensive liberal arts core curriculum that takes into consideration the students’ African-American heritage. Drawing upon the strength of its diverse multicultural student population, the university prepares its students for careers in education and other important professions like business, computer science, nursing, human services and public services.
Academically, Kentucky State University is divided into three main colleges that include the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies; the College of Mathematics, Sciences, Technology and Health; and the College of Professional Studies. Through these colleges, students are offered Bachelor of Arts, Associate in Arts and Master’s degrees in such fields as Education; Business; Computer Science; Nursing; Human Services; Public Administration; and Aquaculture/Aquatic Sciences.
Cost of tuition and fees per semester for fulltime, resident undergraduate students are US$3,272 and US$7,853 for non-residents. Part-time undergraduate students pay tuition and fee at a rate of US$197 per credit hour for residents and US$474 per credit hour for non-residents. For graduate students, tuition cost is US$338 per credit hour for residents and US$811 per credit hour for non-residents.
On campus housing facilities are available for an additional fee of over US$2,000 depending on the style of housing facility chosen.
