Morehead State University
Morehead State University (MSU) started its educational mission in 1887 as the Morehead Normal School. With the closing of the original school in 1922, it reopened in 1923 as the Morehead State Normal School upon the signing of a legislative act creating state normal schools in Eastern and Western Kentucky. It assumed the name Morehead State Normal School and Teachers College in 1926 and eventually as the Morehead State College in 1948. It achieved university status in 1966.
The university is located at 150 University Blvd., Morehead, Kentucky. This public, coeducational learning institution has more than 9,000 students coming from 100 Kentucky counties, 45 states and 36 foreign countries. Student/faculty ratio is 17:1.
Almost 80 degree programs are offered on the associate, bachelor’s and master’s levels. These programs are provided by the Colleges and Departments of MSU including the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; College of Business and Public Affairs; College of Education; and College of Science and Technology. Several programs are offered through online delivery.
Full-time undergraduate tuition for 15 credit hours costs $ 3,018.00 for in-state students while out-of-state tuition for the same number of credits is $ 7,548.00. Graduate courses cost $ 351.00 per credit for in-state students and $ 878.00 for out-of-state students. Courses offered through Internet or Hybrid delivery cost $ 304.00 per credit for undergraduate courses and $ 456.00 per credit for graduate courses.
Aside from its main campus, MSU also offers its programs in regional campus centers located in Ashland, Jackson, Mount Sterling, Prestonsburg, and West Liberty plus several other locations in East Kentucky. The main campus has 10 coed residence halls and computer laboratories boasting of low computer-student ratio. MSU is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
