Louisiana Tech University (LA Tech)
Louisiana Tech University or LA Tech is a public, coeducational university located in Ruston, Louisiana. It was founded in 1894 as the Industrial Institute, then renamed College of Louisiana, then Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1921 until finally Louisiana Tech University in 1970. Recognized for its engineering programs and its athletics, LA Tech has a total of 11,289 students enrolled for academic year 2009-2010 coming from 46 U.S. states and 68 countries other than the United States. The student to faculty ratio is 20 to 1 with the average size per class no more than 23.3.
Apart from its main campus, LS Tech also maintains a satellite campus at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City.
LA Tech offers Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degree programs through its five distinguished academic colleges; namely, College of Applied & Natural Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering & Science, and College of Liberal Arts.
Cost of attendance for students who are residents of Louisiana for academic year 2009-2010 is US$1,503 for fulltime, undergraduate students living on-campus and for graduate students US$1,743. For non-residents, cost of tuition for both fulltime undergraduate and graduate students is US$2,200. Students who want to live on campus have a choice of lodgings and will be charged additional fees for room and board depending on the choice of residential facility and the chosen meal plan. Rooms vary from a regular room priced at US$860 per quarter to an expensive one-bedroom apartment at a cost of US$1,750 per quarter. Financial aid in the form of loans, grants and scholarships are extended to help students pay for their cost of attendance.
