Loyola University New Orleans

Loyola University New Orleans is a private Jesuit school that was named for its patron saint, Ignatius of Loyola. It is one of the largest Jesuit institutions of higher learning in the United States. The school was founded in 1904 as Loyola College and chartered on July 10, 1912, as a university.

There are 3,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students attending classes. The student-to-teacher ratio at Loyola is 11:1. Over 90 percent of the full-time faculty members have a doctorate or equivalent degree.

Admission Requirements

There are a number of documents you need to submit if you want to be considered by Loyola:

If you apply to Loyola online, there is no application fee. Paper applications require that you pay a $20 fee.

Applications to Loyola for undergraduate students are accepted on a rolling basis. You can enroll at the University at the beginning of each term. December 1 is the suggested deadline for applicants interested in attending during the fall term.

Tuition at Loyola University

The cost of tuition for a full-time student at Loyola is $28,770. Room and board adds an additional $9,826 to your bill. You will also be required to pay an additional $396 in mandatory student fees.

Sports at Loyola

Loyola’s varsity sports teams are called the Wolfpack. They compete in the NAIA’s Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The university has five teams that play at the intercollegiate level, and they are funded almost entirely through fees collected from all students attending the university. The team sports the Wolfpack participates in are baseball, basketball, cross country and track, and volleyball. The University decided to discontinue its athletics program in 1972 for financial reasons. A referendum was held in 1991 and students voted to put up the money for the program.

Online Programs

Students who are interested in pursuing an MSN degree in Health Care Systems Management have the option of studying online. A program is also offered for nurses who don’t have a Nursing Bachelor’s degree to allow them to enroll in Loyola’s MSN program. Several certificate programs in nursing are also offered.
