Capitol College
Founded in 1927, Capitol College is located in a 52-acre campus in Laurel, Maryland.
Capitol College is the only regionally accredited college institution in the State of Maryland dedicated to computer science, engineering and information technology. It offers more than 10 undergraduate programs and five graduate programs in these fields with majors in astronautical engineering, management of information technology, software engineering, and network security. In addition to undergraduate programs leading to a Bachelor’s degree, Capitol College also offers accelerated online graduate programs in electrical engineering, computer science, information assurance, business administration, and information and telecommunication systems management. Located between Washington, DC and Baltimore, Capitol College enables it to fulfill its mission through collaborations with local business and government agencies.
Capitol College is only one of eight partners with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. It actively collaborates with the National Security Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Space Operations Institute which operates an $800 million satellite in cooperation with NASA. The Department of Homeland Security has classified Capitol College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
As a result of these collaborations, Capitol College students are provided many opportunities to complement their classroom knowledge and skills with practical experience through internship in one of these organizations.
The Capitol College enrolls around 630 undergraduate students from states around the country and from a number of foreign countries. The student body is racially diverse with 57 percent belonging to ethnic and other racial minorities.
Tuition costs is around $17,688 full-time (2005 –2006). To do so, this college in Maryland offers eligible full-time undergraduate students a tuition lock, as well as job guarantee upon graduation.
