Morgan State University

Designated as Maryland’s Public Urban University, Morgan State University is a coeducational institution which seeks to address the educational needs of residents and organizations within the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. Its 143-acre campus is easily accessible from downtown, Interstate 95 or the Baltimore Beltway. It is located in a residential section of Baltimore, Maryland at 1700 East Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, Maryland.

The university was founded in 1867 as the Centenary Biblical Institute and became the Morgan College in 1890 in honor of Rev. Lyttleton F. Morgan who served from 1876-1886 as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. It has served students of different racial and ethnic backgrounds although it is a historically black institution. It was renamed as the Morgan State University in 1975 by virtue of a state legislature to properly reflect its expanded mission and scope.

Morgan State University serves the academic needs of nearly 6,000 students through its academic units composed of the Clarence M. Mitchell Jr. School of Engineering, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Earl G. Graves School of Business and Management, the Graduate School, the Institute of Architecture and Planning, and the School of Education and Urban Studies. There are about 38 academic programs leading to a baccalaureate degree, 19 programs leading to a master’s degree and 5 programs leading to a doctorate degree. Undergraduate student/faculty ratio is 18:1.

Full-time undergraduate tuition and fees amount to $ 3,274.00 per semester for Maryland residents or $ 7,709.00 per semester for non-residents. Part-time undergraduate cost per credit is $ 263.00 for residents or $ 589.00 for non-residents. Resident students are charged $ 372.00 per credit while non-residents are charged $ 649.00 per credit for Graduate courses. Room charge per semester is about $ 2,680.00 while a 19-meals per week plan costs $ 1,490.00 per semester. All meal plans are available to commuter students while students using on-campus housing facilities are required to choose 1 plan from the 19, 14 or 10-meals per week plans.
