Andover Newton Theological School
Andover Newton Theological School, located in Newton, Massachusetts, is a product of a merger between Andover Theological Seminar and Newton Theological Seminary in 1965 and is in fact the oldest theological institution in the United States. It is a private, non-profit institution that caters only to graduate students.
As can be expected from the name of the school, degree programs available are limited. The degree programs available include Master degree programs in Divinity, Arts, and Sacred Theology and a Doctorate degree program in Ministry. A certificate program in Clinical Pastoral Education is also available.
Andover Newton has an online program/e-learning program that offers high-quality online classes. Students can enroll in online classes and earn up to one-third of their credit for any degree program this way. The e-learning courses are also open to students from other seminaries.
Admissions in Andover Newton is selective. Being a graduate school, only degree holders can apply in Andover Newton. This, coupled with the limited programs and majors, means a very small number of students for the school. Currently there are under 400 students enrolled. The student to faculty ratio is excellent at 5 to 1.
Tuition and fees for the school year of 2009-2010 is $901.50 per course for Lay Auditors (LA), $578 per credit for E-Learning, $300 per course for Minister in the Vicinity Fee (MIV), $100 per course for Andover Newton Alumni/ae MIV Fee, and $7,119 per installment or $14,238 per year for Doctoral in Ministry students.
Room and Board is available with several meal plan options, depending on the student’s load per semester and living situation.
