Boston Architectural College

Starting as a club known as the Boston Architectural Club founded in 1889 at the Boston area, the Boston Architectural College rose to become an independent, professional college offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and design studies. It is located at 320 Newbury Street, Boston, Massachusetts.

Over 300 educators and professional practitioners in the fields of architecture, interior design, urban planning and landscape architecture join efforts to handle more than 1,300 students including degree-seeking and continuing education students. Student/faculty ratio in lecture classes is 8:1 while the ratio in design studios is 6:1. The academic calendar consists of the fall, spring and summer terms.

The only requirement for undergraduate admission is the completion of a high school program or its equivalent. Graduate admissions however, require an undergraduate degree in any major from any accredited institution. International students are accepted to the college’s graduate programs but are required to complete the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree first. Undergraduate programs cost $ 7,670.00 while graduate programs cost $ 11,460.00 for 12-18 credits per semester.

Standard program lengths range from 10 to 14 semesters which may be shortened by taking coursework during the summer semester or through participation in the first year Academic Only Program. The college’s programs take relatively longer than those of other design schools due to the extensive practice requirement which limits the ability of students to take as many academic credits like students enrolled in other institutions. This however works to their advantage since most working hours in practice are credited towards the fulfillment of internship requirements, not to mention the several years of relevant professional experience.
