Eastern Nazarene College

Founded in 1900 in Saratoga Springs, New York as the Pentecostal Collegiate Institute and Bible Training School, Eastern Nazarene College was chartered in 1918 and moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1919 after a prior transfer to Rhode Island. It was originally operated by the Association of Pentecostal Churches of America which later merged with the Church of Nazarene in 1907. Today, it forms part of an educational network of institutions worldwide which are supported by the Church of Nazarene. The college’s main campus is located at Boston’s South Shore in Quincy. However, it offers its academic programs in Bristol Community College, Massasoit Community College and the Roxbury Community College.

It was known for years to local residents as “Quincy’s College”. This Christian college of the liberal arts offers numerous tracks leading to associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. A minimum of 62 total credits is required to earn an associate’s degree while a bachelor’s degree requires a minimum of 123 total credit hours. Dual degrees are attained for a minimum of 153 total credit hours. Eastern Nazarene College’s undergraduate program is built upon a General Education curriculum. It serves as the foundation for all major programs of study. The five major academic divisions have 16 departments offering at least 50 majors as well as certification programs in education, pre-professional programs and cooperative programs in engineering.

A full semester load typically consists of four to five courses with each course usually worth three credit hours each. The undergraduate programs of the Adult Studies Division offer accelerated courses at the associate and baccalaureate levels. Off-campus study opportunities are presented by cooperative placement for real experience in possible career paths. Successful completion of the program is equivalent to three academic credits. In an effort to provide the students with an educational experience that not only emphasizes high academic standards but a serious Christian perspective as well, all faculty members are required to be professing Christians and must demonstrate active involvement in a local church congregation. Students on the other hand are required to attend at least 20 chapel services biweekly.
