Lesley University

Lesley University was established in 1909 primarily as a teacher-education facility for women. It was originally named Lesley School, and as it expanded through the years, finally acquiring its current name in 2001. Lesley University’s undergraduate levels became co-educational in 2005. Lesley University remains to be a national leader in quality teacher preparation, and its main strengths lie in its education, human services, arts and environmental studies programs. Other notable programs include Integrated Teaching Through the Arts, Undergraduate Art Therapy program and Expressive Therapies.

Currently, it has four main campus locations: in Boston, MA; Cambridge, MA; Las Vegas, NV and in Israel; along with 150 sites in twenty-three states in the US.

It is also subdivided into four schools, namely the Art Institute of Boston (AIB), Lesley College, School of Education and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The Art Institute of Boston is Lesley University’s college of visual arts. It offers Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Fine Arts, along with other Certificate courses in different media.

Lesley College hosts the university’s liberal arts programs including Child and Family Studies, Holistic Psychology, and Management. The School of Education offers undergraduate, masters and PhD programs on such areas as Language and Literacy, Technology in Education and Research, Evaluation and Assessment. Adult Bachelor’s Degree programs are offered with emphasis on flexibility and convenience.

These programs could be taken either on-campus in Boston off-campus through learning sites all over Massachusetts, through an individualized low-residency program, or via online wherein the students design their course outline with the help of their program advisor.

A notable feature at work in Lesley University is its strong internship program, wherein students are able to work with relevant partner institutions and corporations within their field of study. This gives the students the opportunity to be educated not just with the theoretical aspects of their future profession but with the practical application, as well. Tuition for full-time undergraduate students is estimated at $14,075 per semester.
