Alma College
Alma College has a long and distinguished history, dating back to 1886. It was founded by the Presbyterian Church, and is currently considered as a selective, residential, private liberal arts college. The campus is located in Alma, Michigan, which is about an hour away from the capital, Lansing.
Alma College offers only undergraduate degree programs, which are classified into three academic departments. These are the Humanities, the Natural Sciences, and the Social Sciences. Pre-professional programs are also available. Under each of these departments, students may choose a major out of the numerous specializations. Some of these are:
• American Studies
• Art and Design
• Biochemistry
• Physics
• Public Health
• Pre-Dentistry
• Pre-Law
• Pre-Engineering
There are currently 1,384 undergraduate students enrolled in the college. The student body represents 24 states and 15 foreign countries. The student to faculty ratio is quite low at 13 to 1. This ensures personalized instruction, which definitely enhances the whole college experience.
Being a residential campus, Alma College has an extensive program for residence life. There are six residence halls, all of which offer room and board. For the academic year 2009-2010, the estimated cost of attendance is $34,586. This amount covers tuition, fees, and room and board (double room).
The college follows a two-semester, one-summer term schedule. The admissions office recommends that interested students apply during the fall of one’s senior year, although they do accept applications throughout the year. In most cases, two weeks is all that is needed to process an application.
