Central Michigan University

Located in Mount Pleasant in the state of Michigan, Central Michigan University (CMU) opened in 1892 as the Central Michigan Normal School and Business Institute. Today it is Michigan’s fourth largest university out of the state’s fifteen universities.

CMU maintains seven colleges in its 480-acre main campus including the College of Business Administration, College of Communication and Fine Arts, College of Education and Human Services, College of Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences, College of Science and Technology, The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, and the College of Graduate Studies, through which it confers bachelor’s, master’s, specialist’s, and doctoral degrees in more than 200 programs ranging from American Indian Studies to Business Administration, Communications to Education, Health to Human Services, Interdisciplinary Studies to Liberal and Fine Arts, and Pre-Professional to Science and Technology.

CMU likewise confers master’s degrees in more than 50 areas of study, specialist’s degrees in two disciplines, and doctoral degrees in 10 fields.

With 836 full-time faculty members at its Mount Pleasant campus and an enrollment of almost 28,000, CMU’s student-to-teacher ratio is 21:1 in its main campus. More than 7,000 students are enrolled in online classes in more than 60 locations spread across the country.

Despite its large student population in its main campus, CMU provides more than 6,300 en suite rooms in 22 residence halls most of which include separate study and living room.

2009-2010 base tuition rates, excluding fees, for all CMU off-campus undergraduate courses amounts to $338 per semester hour. 2009-2010 base tuition rates, excluding fees, for all CMU off-campus graduate courses for which academic credit is given is $446 per semester hour. At the doctorate level, the cost ranges from $446 to $850 per semester hour. At the specialist level, per semester hour fee amounts to $483. For educational and professional development courses, the fee is $339 per semester hour.

Scholarship and financial assistance awards to undergraduate students average a little over $10,000.
