Finlandia University
Finlandia University is located in a lovely campus in Hancock at the northernmost part of Michigan’s upper peninsula known as copper country. A private university, it was founded in 1986 and is closely associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Finlandia offers students a comprehensive liberal arts-based education. They can choose from two- or four-year degree programs with various majors through the university’s four distinguished colleges; namely, the Suomo College of Arts and Sciences, the International School of Art and Design, the College of Health Sciences and the International School of Business. Aside from its on-campus degree programs, the university also offers online programs for students whose life situations may not allow them to attend the traditional day classes. The online program is also a way for the university to reach a wider scope of students interested to acquire a degree in Finlandia University.
Cost of tuition for academic year 2009-2010 is US$8,968 per semester or US$17,936 per year for full-time students and US$598 per credit for part-time students. This is for 12 to 18 credits. For credits over 18 per semester, the cost is US$598 per credit. A non-refundable fee of US$100 is charged to every student who is accepted and has expressed his or her intention to enroll. To help students pay for the cost of admission, financial aid is extended in the form of loans, grants and on-campus employment.
Students who don’t want to commute and would rather live on campus can rent a room at the residential halls of the university.
