Kalamazoo College
Kalamazoo College is a private, liberal arts college located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. One of the oldest learning institutions in the United States today, the college was founded in 1833 by a group of Baptist ministers whose influence remains up to this time even though the college does not claim to maintain any religious affiliations.
As a learning institution, Kalamazoo College or K College is known for its unique curriculum more popularly known as the “K Plan.” The K Plan is an undergraduate program that is centered on a strong liberal arts and sciences core backed up by various methods of acquiring experiential education either locally or abroad either through internships or study abroad programs.
The mission of Kalamazoo is to produce graduates that have a better understanding and therefore are able to successfully live within and even become leaders of our complex modern world.
Currently, there are around 1,340 students coming from 38 U.S. states and 14 other countries. These students are given guidance by 103 fulltime faculty members, 93% of whom hold a PhD or the highest degree possible in their chosen field. With a student to faculty ratio of 12 to 1, the students are confident that their professors will be able to accord them the time and attention they need for their studies.
For academic year 2009-2010, the cost of tuition for fulltime students is US$32,643 plus room and board at an average charge of US$7,776. As a form of assistance, the college extends financial aid to its qualified students by means of scholarships and grants.
A residential college, Kalamazoo requires all its students to live on campus in one of six residential halls until their junior year.
