Kendall College of Art & Design
Kendall College of Art & Design is a college of visual arts within Ferris State University. Founded in 1928 as the private and independent David Wolcott Kendall Memorial School after the nationally recognized furniture industry pioneer, the school changed its name to Kendall School of Design in 1947 and in 2000 was merged with Ferris State University. Despite the merger, Kendall College has remained autonomous and has its own president, faculty, staff, academic programs, and facilities.
Aligning with the mission of Ferris University to provide its students with the skills to prepare them for “successful careers, responsible citizenship, and lifelong learning,” Kendall College of Art & Design commits itself to “prepare its students for leadership in the visual arts, design, art history, and art education by providing them innovative, collaborative education that fosters intellectual growth and individual creativity.”
Located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, the college offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a variety of subjects mostly dealing with Fine Arts. It also has undergraduate programs that provide students introductory courses to the field of study they plan to specialize in. Graduate programs, on the other hand, include an MFA, MAE, and an MBA with focus on design topics.
Cost of tuition at Kendall for resident, undergraduate students is US$4,740 for General Education and US$9,195 for Studio. For non-resident, undergraduate students, cost is US$7,110 for General Education and US$13,792.50 for Studio. Graduate students pay a tuition cost of US$685 per credit hour. As a form of assistance to students, financial aid is extended in the form of loans, grants or scholarships.
There are no on-campus housing facilities at Kendall although the college can help students find appropriate residences near the campus.
