University of Michigan
Located in Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan has long standing roots in the state from its establishment in Detroit back in 1817.
Moving to its current location in 1837, the school is a leading public research institution, enrolling over 40,000 students with over 400,000 active alumni including President Ford and several well known individuals in the private sector.
With a strong research system, the school has some of the best undergraduate and professional programs in law, business and medicine, as well as a competitive NCAA athletics program. A competitive public school, Michigan has a well regarded general College of Literature Science and the Arts, as well as dedicated Colleges of Engineering, a Ross School of Business, a School of Nursing, a School of Natural Resources, as well as program dedicated to Art and Design, Architecture and Urban Planning as well as specialized graduate programs in health such as Dentistry, Social Work and Public Health.
With over two dozen active Rhodes Scholars, the school has a long standing academic tradition of excellence. Although its size makes for a large campus, specialized programs such as the Honors College offer a more tight knit, liberal arts experience.

Admission Requirements
To apply for an Early Response from U of M, you will need to submit your materials by November 1. You will receive a decision about your application by December 31. The deadline for regular applications is February 1, and decisions will be released by April 1.
You will also need to submit your SAT or ACT scores to be considered for U of M. The majority of those accepted to U of M (96 percent) scored at least 500 on their SAT Reading. A full 98 percent of students attending the University of Michigan scored 500 or more on the SAT Math test.
Tuition and Financial Aid
If you are a resident of Michigan, you will be paying $11,738 per academic year to attend U of M. Out-of-state students pay $34,230 for tuition. Room and board will cost an additional $8,590 and full-time students are required to pay $189 for fees.
With a cost on par with many other Universities and Colleges in the region, the University of Michigan is fairly affordable, but if you have any tuition or financial aid questions, it is best to contact the Registrar’s office or Financial Aid staff.
Michigan Sports
U of M’s sports teams are known as the “Wolverines,” and they participate in the Big Ten Conference and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The football team plays its home games in Michigan Stadium, which has the distinction of being the largest college stadium for football in the world. U of M’s football team has a very impressive playing history; it had 40 consecutive winning seasons from 1968-2007.
The men’s ice hockey team also has an impressive record, having won nine championships. A total of 178 students participated in the 2004 Olympic Games. The school has sent athletes to every Summer Games except for 1896; they have won a total of 16 medals, including 54 gold, 27 silver, and 35 bronze.
The University also offers a number of intramural sports for students to participate in. Choose from basketball, broomball, sand volleyball, soccer, table tennis, track and field, and more. Several club sports are also available at U of M, including boxing, field hockey, gymnastics, roller hockey, tennis, volleyball, water polo, and more.
University of Michigan Reviews
If you are independent and goal oriented, then the University of Michigan is most likely for you. There are no limitations on opportunity, but it is expected that students will work hard without too much prompting from professors, allowing them to focus on distilling and disseminating information. Many courses and classes include smaller overall class size, leading to stronger relationships with professors and more one on one time.
The University of Michigan is a world-class school that has been included on several lists of the top 50 liberal arts schools in the United States.
