Owned and operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), the Bethany Lutheran College is a private, residential, liberal arts college located in Mankato, Minnesota. This Christian co-educational school was founded in 1927 by ELS after purchasing a school known as the Bethany Ladies College. Bethany Lutheran College originally offered high school and junior college until 1969. At this time, the high school department was closed and the college worked its way towards transforming itself from an associate to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution. The Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary started out as a department of the college until it became a separate institution in 1975.
Baccalaureate degrees in 19 areas of study including Biology, Broad Field Social Studies, Business Administration, Chemistry, Church Music, Communication, Elementary Education, Engineering, English, Exercise Science, History, Liberal Arts, Mathematics, Music, Psychology, Religion, Sociology, Studio Art and Theater are offered by BLC. Also offered are Certificate Courses in Secondary Education and Coaching. Every prospective student is encouraged to visit the campus for a tour of the facilities as well as to have a talk with a financial aid staff and a professor in the student’s particular field of interest.
Total direct annual educational cost is approximately $ 25,980.00 inclusive of tuition, fees, room and board. The typical increase in cost per year is placed at 4% to 6%. Financial aid packages are available to eligible students.
BLC occupies a 50-acre campus that houses 11 buildings, 4 residential halls, 2 gymnasiums and various sports and recreational facilities. Regular students totaling 607 are handled by 75 faculty members. Student/faculty ratio is 12:1 while student/computer ratio is 6:1. Teaching format combines traditional lecture with collaborative learning.
