Luther Seminary
Luther Seminary, located in the Saint Anthony Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota, is the largest seminary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Established in 1869, the mission of the seminary is to prepare students for a life of ministry and a role of leadership within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The seminary offers a Master of Divinity degree program for students seeking ordination, and Master of Arts, Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Philosophy for its others students. There are around 814 students enrolled at the seminary to date with a higher percentage of them male and mostly enrolled in the Master of Divinity degree program.
Cost of tuition and fees at Luther Seminary for academic year 2009-2010 for a degree in Master of Divinity, Master of Arts, and Master of Sacred Music is US$1,200 for a full course plus fees estimated at a little over US$3,000. For half course, the tuition cost for these degrees is US$600 plus fees of around US$2,000. For Graduate Certificates or non-degree courses, the cost of tuition is US1,200 for a full course and US$600 for half course. Students working towards a Master of Theology degree, Post-Master of Divinity and Master of Arts Special Students pay tuition of US$1,550 for a full course and US$775 for a half course. For Doctorate degrees, tuition cost is US$15,950 per year for fulltime students and US$2,400 per course for part-time. Students of Luther Seminary actually pay for only 22 percent of the actual cost of their tuition. The rest is paid by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and from gifts and donations from foundations and individuals.
