Mayo Clinic College of Medicine
The story of Mayo Clinic started in 1855 upon the arrival of Dr. William Worrell Mayo in Minnesota. He was eventually joined by his two physician sons – Will and Charles. Together, they developed the distinctive Mayo Medicine which was instrumental in the radical transformation of medical practice in the US. Mayo Medicine became synonymous to healthcare that is patient-centered, collaborative, informed and improved by research and medical education, and committed to professional growth.
Mayo Clinic supports five schools including the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Mayo Graduate School, Mayo Medical School, Mayo School of Health Sciences and Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education. Programs offered by these schools include undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate courses in allied health science, medical and scientific education. Over 2,000 medical, research and health sciences students as well as residents and fellows participate annually in the various educational programs offered by Mayo Clinic.
Mayo Graduate School of Medicine is the oldest among Mayo Clinic’s schools as it was established in 1915. It presently has 1,409 residents and clinical fellows participating in its programs. The Mayo Graduate School has 142 pre-doctoral students while the Mayo Medical School has 170 medical students and 391 medical student clerks from other schools. The Mayo School of Continuing Education formally became a school in 1996, offering about 275 courses to students. Estimated first year student expense for Mayo Medical School amounts to $ 61,688.00.
Mayo Clinic is a three-campus medical center consisting of its Rochester, Minnesota Campus; Jacksonville, Florida Campus; and the Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona Campus. Students of Mayo Clinic not only learn how to make an accurate diagnosis and design an effective treatment plan but also develop interpersonal skills and personal qualities required for patient care.
