Alcorn State University

Alcorn State University is known for its excellent faculty and their collaborative relationship with students. It has been ranked by US News and World Report as being among the top 30 historically black colleges and universities and is in fact United States’ first state-supported institution for the higher education of African Americans.

The university has seven schools that offer over 50 different degree programs. These schools are:

• School of Graduate Studies
• School of Nursing

The most popular majors in the university include liberal arts, biological sciences and health professions. Online programs and online classes are provided as an option.
Alcorn State University is based in Mississippi and has three campuses – Lorman, Natchez and Vicksburg – with a total of 2,500 full-time undergraduate students, 348 part-time undergraduate students, and 600 graduate students. There are 172 full-time faculty members and 47 part-time faculty members bringing the student to teacher ration to 16 to 1. The average class size is less than 30 for regular classes and less than 10 for discussion sections/lab classes. Students have the option to live in residence halls that offer basic amenities.

Alcorn accepts applications for freshman undergraduate admission year round requiring applicants to pass their four with regards to College Prep Curriculum scores or to attend their Summer Developmental Program. Online admission application is also available for applicants to undergraduate programs.

The cost of attendance to Alcorn students is $15,475 for In-state students and $10,692 for Out-of-State students. Tuition fee is $4,448 for In-state students and $10,692 for Out-of-State students. Financial aid is given to 91.4% of students in the form loans, scholarships and grants, awards, and employment programs.
