Belhaven College
History, Philosophy, Literature and Art are presented as one set of interconnected disciplines in Belhaven College’s Worldview Curriculum. The college is committed to the liberal arts as well as to the integration of the Christian worldview in the classroom. In a forty-two acre site near the heart of Jackson, Mississippi, Belhaven College takes its place in a growing center of industry and culture.
Belhaven traces its roots from 1883 and was owned and operated until 1972 by the Synod of Mississippi, known in the United States as the Presbyterian Church. Ownership has since been given to a self-perpetuating board of trustees. The college continues to seek deeper relationships with other Presbyterian institutions. The Belhaven College of today is a product of a merger of three distinct institutions of higher learning namely the Mc Comb Female Institute, the Mississippi Synodical College and the original Belhaven College. The campus’ physical setting is a historical residential neighborhood highlighted by the Belhaven Lake. Five recently erected buildings have been added in the past seven years to complement previously existing facilities including the bookstore, computer center, multi-media theatre and the recreational facilities. The five residential halls are provided with high-speed computer accessibility for the use of resident students.
The student body totals 2,900 composed of 1,000 traditional students , 1,200 adult studies students and 700 graduate students on five campuses in Jackson, Memphis, Orlando, Houston and online. The student/faculty ratio is 12 to 1 with about 84% of the faculty members holding Ph D’s or terminal degrees in their respective fields. The undergraduate degrees offered in Belhaven include Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts in Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Management and Bachelor of Business Administration.
