Mississippi University for Women

Mississippi University for Women (MUW) is the first public college for women in the US. Founded in 1884, its establishment was the result of persistent and tireless efforts of several personalities including Sallie Reneau, Olivia Valentine Hastings and Annie Coleman Peyton that spanned a period of over twenty years. MUW was originally known as the Industrial Institute and College, during which time it combined quality collegiate education with practical vocational training.

The MUW campus holds an exceptional architectural distinction with 23 of its 60 buildings listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The university continues to invest on the physical renewal of its campus by adding new buildings and renovating existing ones. Total student population is approximately 2,400 including male and female students. The average class size is 20 while student/faculty ratio is 12:1. There are at least 75 student organizations providing extra-curricular options to the diverse student body.

More than 50 academic programs are offered by MUW’s four academic colleges plus the Culinary Arts Institute. Flexible degree options are presented by the General Studies Program, Online Classes, Accelerated Courses, Evening Classes, Weekend Classes, Executive Certification, Life-long Learning Options and Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit Programs. MUW is comprised of the College of Business, College of Education and Human Sciences, College of Nursing and Speech Language Pathology and College of Arts and Sciences.

Tuition cost per semester for undergraduate and graduate studies is $ 2,211.50 for in-state residents and $ 3,814.00 for out-of-state residents. Undergraduate part-time tuition cost is $ 184.25 and $ 317.80 per hour for residents and non-residents, respectively. Part-time tuition cost for graduate studies is $ 245.70 per hour for residents or $ 423.75 per hour for non-residents. Room and board rate for double occupancy is approximately $ 1,500.00.
