Forest Institute of Professional Psychology

The Forest Institute of Professional Psychology located in Springfield, Missouri was established for the purpose of introducing an alternative to the old and traditional methods of teaching programs in psychology and education.

The aim of the institute is to train young men and women to be direct providers of mental health. The mission is not to develop them into researchers or teachers but to practice concepts learned in the provision of mental health. The programs adopt a holistic approach to mental wellness rooted in the practice of clinical psychology.

The institute was founded in 1979 and today the school has successfully awarded master’s degrees in various psychology-related majors. Currently, Forest has expanded its objectives and has included the provision of a master’s level curriculum and alternative methods of delivering education and treatment-focused studies.

There are approximately 225 students enrolled at Forest Institute most of whom are working for their doctoral degrees. The cost of admission to Forest Institute is US$627 per credit hour. On-campus housing is available via one- or two-bedroom housing units. These units are fully equipped with spacious living rooms and kitchen and laundry facilities. Financial aid is extended to students who may find the cost of tuition too steep. Merit-based scholarships are also available.

The institute operates various clinics and provides assistance and services to the community thereby allowing students to apply what they learn in the classroom with practical learning. Forest Institute also partners with the Center for Professional Solutions to fill up the critical lack of mental health service providers in the metropolitan area.
